Last week was the launch of the first destiny's DLC, it's kinda short but it carries some improvements to the game. Also last week Bioware released the first patch solving most of the problems DAI had and just yesterday they added some free content to the multiplayer. Very cool move from Bioware by the way.

Now I was planning to make a short review of the new destiny DLC but I think it is too short and it didn't worth it but then I noticed something interesting both DAI and Destiny had several flaws at launch but while almost everyone took notice of Destiny flaws the ones in Dragon Age where mostly overlooked and caused much less hatred. Also I always think that at least from trailers that Destiny seemed similar to Borderlands 2 trying to be a mix of RPG and shooter but one of the mayor complains about Destiny was the plot.

I think the plot was one of the reasons why people downplayed Dragon Age flaws but they remarked strongly the ones in Destiny. The plot is much more engaging in DAI and maybe that make us look to the other side regarding its flaws. But have you ever noticed that Borderlands 2, Destiny and Dragon Age Inquisition have a lot of similar plot elements.

The three games start with your character escaping death with the help of some kind of companion. In the three games you must protect the world and in a more specific way a city against a threat. Then there is an event that makes your character to want to strike back at the enemy with the characters having to find a way to achieve this. Finally the games end culminating in some sort of final battle against the enemy.

Being so similar in it's formula I think ultimately where Destiny failed were with the characters. The game lacks the interesting and engaging characters that Borderlands and Dragon Age games have. Your companion the "Ghost" never really interacts with the main character and is limited to the function of a GPS and door opener. The side characters barely had dialogue and the enemies never do anything threatening or evil to really win the place of antagonist. In Borderlands and Dragon Age you see characters die, cities being destroyed and enough others things that make the enemy a true antagonist of your character.

Now with the DLC of Destiny we finally see some improvement with the storytelling, finally we have Eris a character with clear motivations, she wants revenge against the bad guy that killed her team. The enemy finally makes something to make it the antagonist of the story. The story develops a little better than in the main game but it is still short and the characters lacks dept. So all my hopes that the lack of plot in Destiny could be solved with the DLCs is finally gone. All this because the DLC actually doesn't fix the flaws with the main plot it only adds a new story arc that even if it's a bit better developed it still leaves mostly untouched the problems with the main plot.

And probably we don't see any different with the next DLCs, very sad because I really wanted to see Destiny to improve.
